PRISONS ACT 1981 - SECT 31
31 . Chief executive officer and superintendent’s powers of early discharge
(1) The chief
executive officer may authorise the discharge from custody of a prisoner at
any time during the period of 30 days immediately before the day when his
sentence is due to expire.
(2) The superintendent
may authorise the discharge from custody of a prisoner at any time during the
period of 10 days immediately before the day when his sentence is due to
expire.
(3) This section does
not apply to a prisoner who is committed to prison on default of payment of a
fine or monetary penalty imposed on him or on default of payment of any other
sum of money (including costs) ordered to be paid by him.
