The conference program and other details will be announced formally in August, via 'News from AustLII' and elsewhere. The registration fee will be modest, particularly for academics and those in the community sector. The program will contain a mix of invited presentations and submitted papers/demonstrations. Anyone interested in submitting a paper/presentation should contact Graham Greenleaf (graham@austlii.edu.au). ------------------------------ USERMARK - AUTOMATED MARKUP TOOLS - ENHANCE YOUR LEGAL WEB PAGES http://www.austlii.edu.au/austlii/usermark/ AustLII is making available a subset of the markup tools we use to automatically build the links within our databases. You can use the Automated Markup Tool to add links from your existing web pages to legislation and High Court cases on AustLII, simply by entering the URLs of your pages. The Automated Markup Tool does the rest. It only takes a few seconds to create dozens of links. Please read the 'Licence Conditions' and the 'Tips & Tricks' before using the tools. Although most usage of the markup tools is free, any commercial usage requires AustLII consent. ------------------------------ FAMILY LAW DECISIONS http://www2.austlii.edu.au/~graham/family_court/faminfo.html In light of the assessment by the Family Court and the Attorney-General of the appropriateness of the data provided by them, the Family Court database will be restored on AustLII as part of our next scheduled update of SCALE materials, which is due in the next couple of weeks. ------------------------------ HIGH COURT BULLETIN - NUMBER 4 http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/other/hca/bulletin/hcab9604.html A new High Court of Australia bulletin, giving details of around 50 cases before the court during the last sittings, has been prepared by the High Court of Australia Library and is now available on AustLII. ------------------------------ NSW LAW FOUNDATION CONTINUES AUSTLII SUPPORT http://www.fl.asn.au/ The Law Foundation of New South Wales has renewed its grant to AustLII for the 1996/97 financial year for the extension and maintenance of Australian primary legal materials on AustLII. As for 1995/96, the Foundation's financial support will be approximately $150,000. The Foundation also assists AustLII to obtain access to primary materials. AustLII is very grateful to the Foundation for its continuing support. ------------------------------ 'AUSTLII GUIDE' NOW AVAILABLE http://www.austlii.edu.au/austlii/guide/ The "AustLII Guide to Legal Research on the Internet" is now available for downloading. It is the most comprehensive available guide to using AustLII, and also contains chapters on other internet legal resources in Australia and overseas. The Guide will be updated periodically. Comments and suggestions are welcomed. The Guide may be downloaded free for personal use, and also for use in University legal research courses (see http://www.austlii.edu.au/austlii/guide/ for conditions). ------------------------------ AUSTRALIAN TREATIES DATABASE http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/other/dfat/ You may have noticed the Australian Treaty List as a new searchable database on AustLII. This is the first small instalment of what will in time become the Australian Treaties Library, a comprehensive database of all treaties to which Australia is a party, plus supporting information. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is funding AustLII to develop the database in co-operation with it, and we thank them for their support. ------------------------------ CLE TRAINING COURSE ON LEGAL RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET http://www.austlii.edu.au/arkady/unsw/cle/ The Department of Continuing Legal Education at the University of New South Wales Faculty of Law is offering a one day hands-on 'Computerised Legal Research and the Internet Training Course' on eight dates this year. The remaining 1996 dates are 23 August, 6 September, 18 October, and 15 November. Registration is limited to the 25 places available in the Lab. The morning session is on CD-ROM and on-line data bases and is taught by Irene Nemes, Director of Legal Research, UNSW Law Faculty. The afternoon session is on internet legal research and is taught by Graham Greenleaf, Co-Director, AustLII.
