Detention of entrants by protective services officers
558 Detention of entrants by protective services officers
(1) This section
applies if a protective services officer reasonably suspects a person who is
an entrant to a state building has committed an offence at or in connection
with the building.
(2) The protective services officer may detain the person
for the time reasonably necessary to give the person into the custody of a
police officer.
(3) It is the duty of the protective services officer to
release the person at the earliest reasonable opportunity if the person is no
longer reasonably suspected of committing the offence for which the person was
detained.
(4) Subsection (3) does not apply if the person is reasonably
suspected of another offence, whether or not arising out of the circumstances
of the offence for which the person was detained.
