AustLII Toolbar

The AustLII Toolbar allows you to search AustLII from any website page. Additionally it includes the AustLII menu which lists links for most of the major category materials for all Australian jurisdictions and New Zealand.

The drop-down search box also shows your last few searches. If you are using the Microsoft Internet Explorer toolbar, this information is saved across browser sessions.

The buttons on the AustLII toolbar for the other Legal Information Institutes may also be customised (selectively shown/hidden) from the settings menu. The default search type may also be chosen from the settings menu.

There are versions of the AustLII toolbar available for the Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser, the SeaMonkey Suite web browser and the Mozilla Firefox web browser.

Microsoft Internet Explorer (Microsoft Windows platforms)

To install the AustLII Toolbar for Internet Explorer v5.x and later:

1. Download the appropriate file from the list below;
2. Make a note of the directory to which you save the file;
3. Double-click the file when it has finished downloading and follow the installation wizard's prompts.
4. When the installation has finished, shut all open Internet Explorer windows and then re-open Internet Explorer. If you cannot see the AustLII toolbar, go to Internet Explorer's View Menu >> Toolbars and click the "LII Toolbar" entry in the list.
5. Once the AustLII toolbar is installed, you should click on the toolbar's Settings Menu and choose Update Toolbar to update to the latest AustLII database listing. You should also do this from time to time to ensure you have the most up-to-date database listing.

Available files

NOTE: The latest version of the toolbar program is v1.0.0.37. The latest version of the toolbar configuration file is v1.22 (26 June 2009). After you have installed the toolbar program below, you should update the configuration file to the current version. See the online help for details on how to do this.

• AustLII Toolbar v1.0.0.37 (700Kb) A new install for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003 - if you already have version 2 or later of the Microsoft Installer Setup (MSI) engine installed. (This version is the smallest download because it does not include the Microsoft Setup Installer engine.)

• AustLII Toolbar v1.0.0.37 (2.3Mb) A new install for Windows 95/98/ME. (This version is a larger download because it includes the Microsoft Setup Installer engine version 2 for Windows 95/98/ME.)

• AustLII Toolbar v1.0.0.37 (2.5Mb) A new install for Windows NT/2000/XP/2003. (This version is a larger download because it includes the Microsoft Setup Installer engine version 2 for Windows NT/2000/XP/2003.)

• AustLII Toolbar v1.0.0.37 (4.1Mb) A new install for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003. (This version is the largest download because it includes both the Microsoft Setup Installer engine v2 for Windows 95/98/ME and the MSI engine v2 for Windows NT/2000/XP/2003.)

• AustLII Toolbar v1.0.4 (22Kb) - 4 December 2009 - A new install for AIX, FreeBSD, HPUX, Linux, Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, OS/2, Solaris, Tru64 Unix.

NOTE: This Toolbar will automatically load the AustLII menu directly from AustLII's webserver and will not require updating to include new databases.

• AustLII Toolbar v1.1.9 (19Kb) - Updated 20 June 2008 - A new install for AIX, FreeBSD, HPUX, Linux, Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, OS/2, Solaris, Tru64 Unix.

NOTE: From version 1.1.7 of the Firefox Toolbar onwards, the Toolbar automatically loads the AustLII menu directly from AustLII's webserver and will no longer require updating to include new databases or database URL changes.
