AustLII's 2008 contributors included 30 universities and academic institutions, 12 Government agencies, 19 Courts and Tribunals, 16 organisations from business and industry, 93 organisations and individuals from the legal profession, nine Law Societies and Bar Associations, three community and non-profit organisations, and many other small contributors.

AustLII thanks all those organisations and individuals that provide it with funding, data and other assistance.

AustLII's contributors - an invitation to join us

AustLII is a free access service which is not funded by usage charges or advertisements. AustLII's funding is provided by contributors, a wide range of organisations who have an interest in facilitating access to legal information of particular types. By broadening its range of contributors as far as possible, AustLII aims to lighten the burden on any particular organisation of funding access to legal information.

New contributors are welcome. Organisations from the legal profession, Courts and Tribunals, Law Schools, business organisations and others are invited to become AustLII "contributors" by making whatever funding contribution they consider is appropriate. A number of organisations have contributed valuable funding assistance to AustLII to continue its development. Listed below are AustLII's current funding sources and previous funding sources. There is also a breakdown of funding by organisation type and by jurisdiction available.

	$294,044	----------	The Legal Services Board of Victoria awarded AustLII a three-year (2009-2011) grant to make AustLII's Victorian resources a model for other jurisdictions.
	----------	$275,000	AusAID has provided from its Public Sector Linkages Programme (PSLP) $275,000 for 2007/08 for the inclusion of content in AsianLII from eight countries (Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, China - including Macau SAR and Hong Kong SAR, Laos and Mongolia) and to support capacity development in those countries.
	$265,163	$281,206	The Australian Research Council (ARC) has awarded competitive research grants and research infrastructure grants to AustLII since its inception. ARC/DEETYA grants have been AustLII's largest single source of support.

	$40,000	$40,000	For 2008, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) funds AustLII's Australian Treaties Library. For 2009, DFAT is a partner in a collaborative research grant for an international and humanitarian law library.
	$40,000	$11,000	The Law Institute of Victoria assists with the funding of AustLII's Victorian resources. $40,000 of this funding is for conversion and hosting services for the Institute's journal 1997-2002.

Previous Funding Sources

AustLII wishes to thank those sources that have provided it with significant funding in past years, but no longer provide funding:

• The Law Foundation of New South Wales  was the principal source of funding for AustLII's primary legal materials. The Law Foundation of NSW previously operated Foundation Law. AustLII wishes to express its sincere thanks to the Foundation for its generous and substantial support during AustLII's first five years.
• The British and Irish Legal Information Institute (BAILII) has assisted with the funding of AustLII providing $106,000 over 2000-2001.
• IP Australia funded the development of intellectual property resources on AustLII providing $90,000 over 2000-2002.
• The Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation funded the Reconciliation and Social Justice Project, and was a partner in a collaborative research grant.
• AUSTRAC
• Australian Business Limited provided $520,000 over the period 1997-2005 to fund the Workplace Relations Law Library and partnered with AustLII in a collaborative research grant on Point-in-Time legislation.
• CCH Australia Limited provided $395,000 over the period 2002-2006 to assist with the funding of AustLII's collection of Australian primary legal materials, the development of the Legal Publishers Search facility and AustLII's National Training Program.
