Some of Australia’s best known performers top the bill for the Corroboree 2000 free concert program at Darling Harbour following the People’s Walk for Reconciliation across the Sydney Harbour Bridge on Sunday 28 May 2000.
Members of the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation were joined by performers Jimmy Little, Brendan Gallagher (Karma County) and Buzz Bidstrup (GANGgajang) at Darling Harbour today to release details of the concert program.
Over 50 acts and more than 200 performers will come from all over Australia to appear on three stages at Darling Harbour on Sunday 28 May: Tumbalong Park, Palm Grove and the Harbourside Aqua Shell.
The concerts start at 9am on Sunday 28 May and run throughout the day to entertain the crowds once they finish the People’s Walk for Reconciliation across the Harbour Bridge.
Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation Chair Evelyn Scott said, "The Council is thrilled to be joined at Corroboree 2000 by such acclaimed and talented performers and the concerts and the Bridge Walk will be a great celebration of the progress the People’s Movement is making towards reconciliation in Australia.
"Many people have committed themselves to the strong People’s Movement and organising these free concerts is one way we can thank people for their support of reconciliation,"she said.
"All of the performers are appearing free of charge as their contribution to Corroboree 2000 and the People’s Movement and that shows the deep commitment and dedication to the reconciliation process of so many performing artists,"she said.
Well known performers include The Wiggles and Jimmy Little in the early part of the day, followed by Neil Murray, John Williamson, Vika and Linda Bull, Ted Egan, Coloured Stone, Nokturnl, Karma County, GANGgajang, Leah Purcell, Stiff Gins, Lazy Susan and The Titanics, and The Dave Graney Show. Mental as Anything will finish the day on the Tumbalong Park stage.
The Darling Harbour audience can expect to see performers from afar afield as Darwin, Broome, Alice Springs and the Torres Strait. A g roup of dancers from Saibai Island in the Torres Strait and the Saltwater Band from Elcho Island (NT) are amongst those making the very long journey to appear at Darling Harbour.
People around Australia will be able to watch the free concerts live on SBS TV. SBS TV will broadcast live the entire weekend of Corroboree 2000 events on 27/28 May.
