HIGH COURT DECISION ON MABO - (VI) POSSESSORY TITLE - CONCLUSIONS
It follows from this analysis that the Meriam people may have
acquired a possessory title on annexation. However, as I have said,
the consequences here are no more beneficial for the plaintiffs and,
the argument having been put as an alternative, it is unnecessary
to reach a firm conclusion. In any event, it is unlikely that a
firm conclusion could be reached since some matters, the creation of
the reserve for example, were not fully explored.
