Western Australian Consolidated Regulations (1) Upon an
application being made under these regulations to license a motor vehicle,
trailer or semi-trailer manufactured on or after 1 January 1989, the
Director General shall not grant the licence —
(a)
unless a vehicle identification number is legibly and durably stamped on the
vehicle; or
(b) if
the vehicle identification number on the vehicle has been, or appears to have
been, altered, defaced or obliterated.
(2) The Director
General may allot a vehicle identification number to a motor vehicle, trailer
or semi-trailer manufactured on or after 1 January 1989,
where —
(a)
there is no vehicle identification number on the vehicle; or
(b) the
vehicle identification number on the vehicle has been or appears to have been,
altered, defaced or obliterated.
(3) Where a vehicle
identification number is allotted pursuant to subregulation (2), the
owner or the person in charge of the vehicle shall ensure —
(a) that
the number is legibly and durably stamped on the vehicle in such manner and in
such position, as the Director General directs; and
(b) that
upon being stamped, the vehicle is produced to the Director General for
inspection of the vehicle identification number.
(4) For the purposes
of this regulation —
vehicle identification number means a vehicle
identification number that is required under the Vehicle Standards to be
affixed to a vehicle.
