ROAD TRAFFIC CODE 2000 - REG 40

40 .         Stopping for a circular red signal or red arrow

        (1)         If a traffic-control signal facing a driver displays a circular red signal —

            (a)         subject to regulation 43, the driver shall not proceed beyond the stop line associated with the signal;

            (b)         if there is a “stop here on red signal” sign at or near the signal, but no stop line, the driver shall not proceed beyond the sign; or

            (c)         in the absence of a stop line, the driver shall not proceed beyond a point adjacent to the nearest appropriate traffic-control signal.

        Points: 3         Modified penalty: 3 PU

        (2)         If a traffic-control signal facing a driver displays a red arrow signal —

            (a)         subject to regulation 43, the driver shall not proceed beyond the stop line associated with the signal;

            (b)         if there is a “stop here on red arrow” sign at or near the signal, but no stop line, the driver shall not proceed beyond the sign; or

            (c)         in the absence of a stop line, the driver shall not proceed beyond a point adjacent to the nearest appropriate traffic-control signal,

                as the case may be, in the direction indicated by the arrow.

        Points: 3         Modified penalty: 3 PU
