Western Australian Consolidated Regulations (1) Isotretinoin or a
substance containing isotretinoin shall not be prescribed except by a
physician or dermatologist.
(1a) Where
isotretinoin or a substance containing isotretinoin is supplied in accordance
with a prescription under subregulation (1) the supplier shall ensure
that the container in which the isotretinoin or the substance containing
isotretinoin is supplied, is labelled with a warning in the following words,
or other words having the same effect —
“WARNING —
CAUSES BIRTH DEFECTS”.
(2) A physician or
dermatologist who prescribes isotretinoin or a substance containing
isotretinoin shall ensure that the possibility of pregnancy has been excluded
prior to the commencement of the treatment and that the patient is informed
that she must not become pregnant for a period of one month after completion
of the treatment.
