Western Australian Consolidated Regulations (1) Etretinate or
acitretin or a substance containing etretinate or acitretin shall not be
prescribed except by a physician or dermatologist.
(1a) Where etretinate
or acitretin or a substance containing etretinate or acitretin is supplied in
accordance with a prescription under subregulation (1) the supplier shall
ensure that the container in which the etretinate or acitretin or the
substance containing etretinate or acitretin is supplied, is labelled with a
warning in the following words, or other words having the same
effect —
“WARNING —
CAUSES BIRTH DEFECTS”.
(2) A physician or
dermatologist who prescribes etretinate or acitretin or a substance containing
etretinate or acitretin shall ensure that the possibility of pregnancy has
been excluded prior to the commencement of the treatment and that the patient
is informed that she must not become pregnant for a period of 24 months
after completion of the treatment.
