WORKERS' COMPENSATION AND INJURY MANAGEMENT ACT 1981 - SECT 3
3 . Purposes
The purposes of this
Act are —
(a) to
establish a workers’ compensation scheme for Western Australia dealing
with —
(i)
compensation payable to or in respect of workers who
suffer an injury; and
(ii)
the management of workers’ injuries in a manner
directed at enabling injured workers to return to work; and
(iii)
specialised retraining programs for injured workers; and
(iv)
ancillary and related matters;
and
(b) to
establish WorkCover WA to oversee the operation of the workers’
compensation scheme; and
(c) to
provide for the resolution of disputes under this Act; and
(d) to
make provision for the hearing and determination by the dispute resolution
authorities of disputes between parties involved in workers’
compensation matters in a manner that is fair, just, economical, informal and
quick.
