Students of Amalgamating Institutes53. Students of Amalgamating Institutes (1) On and after the commencement of section 4, a person who is an enrolled student of an Amalgamating Institute is also an enrolled student of the University. (2) The Statutes or Regulations may authorise the Council of the University, at the request of a person who is or has been an enrolled student of the University by virtue of subsection (1), to confer on the student, subject to and in accordance with the Statutes and Regulations, a degree, diploma, certificate or other award under a name that includes the title of the award and the words "Footscray Institute of Technology" or "The Western Institute", as the case requires. (3) The powers of the Council of the University extend to the conferring of any degree, diploma, certificate or other award on a person who is an enrolled student of the University by virtue of subsection (1) that an Amalgamating Institute might have conferred on the person if this Act had not been enacted. (4) A person who holds a degree, diploma, certificate or other award of an Amalgamating Institute is entitled on and from the date of commencement of this section to the same benefits and privileges as are enjoyed by a person holding an award of the University, as if the award of the Institute were an award of the University. _______________
