TRANSPORT (TOW TRUCK) REGULATIONS 2005 (SR NO 136 OF 2005) - REG 23

Authorisation to attend accident scene

    (1)     If a request to remove a damaged motor vehicle from an accident scene in the controlled area is received in the Allocation Centre, the officer in charge—

        (a)     must authorise an operator of a licensed tow truck which is on the roster to attend the accident scene; or

        (b)     if the accident scene is on the Link road or the Extension road, may report the matter to the Link corporation or the Extension corporation (within the meaning of the Melbourne City Link Act 1995 ) or to an agent of either of those corporations.

    (2)     The officer in charge of the Allocation Centre must ensure that—

        (a)     the authorisation is recorded; and

        (b)     a job number is allocated to the authorisation; and

        (c)     the job number allocated to the authorisation is matched with the details of the damaged motor vehicle which the operator tows from the accident scene; and

        (d)     the authorisation is only given for one damaged motor vehicle.
