Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 1999 - SECT 219

Duration of registration

219. Duration of registration



(1) Subject to subregulations (3), (4), (5) and (6) a vehicle may be
registered for a period of-

   (a)  in the case of a heavy vehicle-3 months, 6 months or 1 year;

   (b)  in the case of a light vehicle or motor cycle-12 months; or



   (c)  in the case of a vehicle referred to in subregulation (5)-12 months or
        6 months.



(2) An applicant for registration of a heavy vehicle must nominate the period
for which the applicant desires the vehicle to be registered.

(3) If the Corporation approves, an applicant for registration of a heavy
vehicle for a period of less than a whole year may nominate a period of not
less than 3 months and not more than 9 months as the registration period for
the vehicle.

(4) If the Corporation approves, an applicant for registration of a vehicle
may nominate, and the Corporation may approve, a different period of
registration from the relevant period specified in subregulation (1) if it is
necessary to do so to achieve a common registration expiry date for 2 or more
vehicles registered, or to be registered, in the name of the applicant.

(5) An applicant for registration of a vehicle referred to in-

   (a)  clause (4) of Schedule 4; or

   (b)  item 13, item 13A, item 13B or item 14 of the Table in Schedule 4-

may nominate a period of 6 months as the registration period for that vehicle.
Note Regulation 236(2) provides for a pro rata fee in respect of registration
for a period other than 12 months.

(6) Subregulation (5) applies even if the fee for registration in respect of
the relevant vehicle is nil.
