Emergency procedures

3.4.20. Emergency procedures



(1) An employer must ensure, in relation to work in a confined space, that
emergency procedures are established, in accordance with this regulation, for
the control and management of an emergency in the confined space, including
procedures for-

   (a)  the rescue of any employee from the confined space; and

   (b)  first aid to be provided to any employee in the confined space and
        after rescue from the confined space.

(2) The emergency procedures must take into account-

   (a)  the matters referred to in regulations 3.4.7(2)(a) to 3.4.7(2)(e); and

   (b)  the matters referred to in regulations 3.4.16 and 3.4.17.

(3) An employer must ensure that the emergency procedures are rehearsed by the
relevant employees.

(4) An employer must ensure that the emergency procedures are carried out as
soon as is reasonably possible after an emergency arises in a confined space.

(5) An employer must ensure that any risk associated with the carrying out of
the emergency procedures is-

   (a)  eliminated so far as is reasonably practicable; or

   (b)  if it is not reasonably practicable to eliminate the risk, reduced so
        far as is reasonably practicable.
