Procedure in absence of the respondent

18. Procedure in absence of the respondent



(1) This section applies if-

   (a)  a summons has been served on the respondent or the respondent is
        bailed to appear at the hearing of the application for the
        intervention order; and

   (b)  the respondent fails to appear in person at the time fixed for the
        hearing of the application.

(2) The court may-

   (a)  proceed to hear and determine the matter in the respondent's absence;
        or

   (b)  if satisfied that it is appropriate to do so, adjourn the matter and
        issue a warrant to arrest the respondent and bring the respondent
        before the court.
