Adjournment of sentencing

18D. Adjournment of sentencing

If a court is considering imposing an indefinite sentence on an offender,
whether on its own initiative or because of a notice filed under section
18C(1)(a), it must on the day of the conviction or within 5 working days after
that day explain, or cause to be explained, to the offender in language likely
to be readily understood by him or her-

   (a)  the fact that it is considering imposing an indefinite sentence; and

   (b)  the effect of an order for an indefinite sentence-

and adjourn sentencing until at least 25 working days after the day of the
conviction.
