PARLIAMENTARY PRECINCTS ACT 2001 - SECT 16

Powers to give directions

    (1)     An authorised officer may direct a person to leave or not to enter the Parliamentary precincts if the authorised officer believes on reasonable grounds that the direction is necessary for the good order and security of the Parliamentary precincts.

    (2)     A direction to leave or not to enter the Parliamentary precincts may apply to—

        (a)     the whole of the Parliamentary precincts; or

        (b)     any part of the Parliamentary precincts.

    (3)     A direction to leave or not to enter the Parliamentary precincts may specify a period, not exceeding 7 days, for which the direction applies.

    (4)     If a direction does not specify a period, the direction applies for 24 hours.

    (5)     During the period that a direction under subsection (1) applies, a presiding officer may, by written notice to the person to whom that direction applies, further direct the person not to enter the Parliamentary precincts during the period specified in that written notice, without the leave of the presiding officer.

    (6)     A notice under subsection (5) must be served on the person to whom it applies either personally or by post.
