15A. Dogs on moving vehicles



(1) In this section-

highway has the same meaning as in the Road Safety Act 1986;

motor vehicle has the same meaning as in the Road Safety Act 1986;



trailer has the same meaning as in the Road Safety Act 1986;

tray means a part of a motor vehicle behind the cabin that is an open
compartment and is principally constructed to carry a load.

(2) Subject to subsection (3), a person must not drive on a highway-





   (a)  a motor vehicle with a tray; or





   (b)  a motor vehicle to which a trailer is attached-

if a dog is in or on the tray or trailer (as the case requires) and the dog is
not secured in such a way as to prevent it from-

   (c)  falling off or out of, or from, or moving off, the tray or trailer (as
        the case requires); or



   (d)  being injured from the movement of the motor vehicle or trailer.

Penalty: 10 penalty units.

(3) Subsection (2) does not apply to a dog which is being used to assist in
the movement of livestock.
