Power to give advice on compliance

18. Power to give advice on compliance

(1) The Authority may give advice to a person who has a duty or obligation
under this Act or the regulations about complying with that duty or
obligation.

(2) The giving of such advice by the Authority does not give rise to-

   (a) any liability of, or other claim against, the Authority; or

   (b) any right, expectation, duty or obligation that would not otherwise be
conferred or imposed on the person given the advice; or

   (c) any defence that would not otherwise be available to that person.

(3) The Authority's power under this section to give advice may also be
exercised by an inspector or, if the Authority authorises any other person to
exercise the power, that other person.

Note An inspector or other person exercising this power may not be liable for
things done or omitted to be done in good faith (see section 22(5) of the
Accident Compensation Act 1985).
