Vice Chancellor and President
21. Vice Chancellor and President
(1) The Council shall appoint a person (whether a member of the Council or
not) to be Vice Chancellor and President1 of the University.
(2) The Vice Chancellor and President2 shall hold office for such period and
on such conditions as the Council determines.
(3) Subject to this Act the Vice Chancellor and President3 shall be the Chief
executive officer of the University and shall as such have such powers and
duties as are conferred or imposed upon him by the Statutes and regulations,
and unless otherwise expressly provided by the Statutes or the regulations the
Vice Chancellor and President4 shall have power to delegate any of his powers
and duties to any member or committee of the University.
(4) If a person is appointed pursuant to the Statutes of the University as an
acting Vice Chancellor and President5 during the absence or following the
death or retirement of the Vice Chancellor and President6, the person so
appointed shall, during the period of that appointment, have all the powers
and duties of the Vice Chancellor and President7 and shall be a member of the
Council ex officio in place of the Vice Chancellor.
(5) Notwithstanding section 9(4), where a person appointed as acting Vice
Chancellor and President8 is already a member of Council that person's place
on Council shall not be vacated.
