9B. Casual vacancies



(1) If the office of a member of the Council becomes vacant otherwise than by
reason of the expiry of the member's term of office, a person must be
appointed to fill the vacancy as soon as practicable after the office falls
vacant.

(2) The member so appointed must satisfy the requirements of section 7 with
respect to the office that has become vacant.

(3) The appointment shall be made by the body by which the member whose office
has become vacant was appointed.

(4) The person appointed holds office, subject to this Act, for the remainder
of the term of the office that fell vacant.

(5) If the vacancy occurs within 3 months before the expiry of a member's term
of office, the office may be left vacant for the remainder of the term.
