Melbourne College of Advanced Education (Amalgamation) Act 1988 - SECT 7

Students of the College

7. Students of the College



(1) On the date of commencement of this Act, a person who during 1988 was an
enrolled student of the College and has not ceased to be a student of the
College at that date of commencement becomes an enrolled student of the
University.

(2) Without limiting the Melbourne University Act 1958-

(a) statutes or regulations made under that Act by the Council of the
University may authorise the Council, at the request of a person who becomes
an enrolled student of the University by virtue of subsection (1), to confer
on the student, subject to and in accordance with the statutes and
regulations, a degree, diploma, certificate or other award under a name that
includes the title of the award and the words "Melbourne College of Advanced
Education"; and

   (b)  the powers of the Council of the University under section 19 of that
        Act extend to the conferring of any award to a person who becomes an
        enrolled student of the University by virtue of subsection (1) that
        the College might have conferred on the person if this Act had not
        been enacted.

(3) Despite anything to the contrary in the Melbourne University Act 1958, a
person-

   (a)  who has been awarded a degree of the College; or

   (b)  who has completed a course of study at-

   (i)  the State College of Victoria at Melbourne; or

   (ii) the State College of Victoria-Institute of Early Childhood
        Development- and has been awarded a degree of the State College of
        Victoria- is entitled to be, and to be registered as, a member of the
        Convocation of the University subject to any statutes of the
        University made with respect to that registration.

(4) Despite anything to the contrary in the Melbourne University Act 1958, a
person-

   (a)  who holds a diploma of the College; or

   (b)  who has completed a course of study at-

   (i)  the State College of Victoria at Melbourne; or

   (ii) the State College of Victoria-Institute of Early Childhood
        Development- and holds a diploma of the State College of Victoria- is
        entitled on and from the date of commencement of this Act to the same
        benefits and privileges as are enjoyed by persons holding diplomas of
        the University, as if the diploma of the College were a diploma of the
        University.
