State collections
26. State collections
(1) The Museum of Victoria shall be the official place of lodgement of the
State collections of natural history (including collections of type
specimens), the history of human society and the history of science and
technology.
(2) Where a department holds material which forms a collection or part of a
collection of material in the field of natural history, the history of human
society or the history of science and technology, the department shall not
dispose of that material unless the department first submits the material to
the Board.
(3) Where the Board receives material submitted to it pursuant to subsection
(2), it shall as soon as is practicable determine whether that material is
appropriate for inclusion in a State collection of natural history, the
history of human society or the history of science and technology.
(4) Where, pursuant to subsection (3), the Board determines that material is
appropriate for inclusion in a State collection, that material shall thereupon
for the purposes of this Act be deemed to form part of that State collection.
(5) In this section department means a department or administrative office
within the meaning of the Public Administration Act 2004.
