Local Government (Consequential Provisions) Act 1989 - SECT 6

Councillors

6. Councillors



(1) All Councillors in office immediately before the commencement of this
section continue in office subject to the Local Government Act 1989 for the
remainder of their terms of office.

(2) Subject to the Local Government Act 1989, the repeal of the Acts specified
in Schedule 1 or 3 does not affect the holding of any election for
Councillors.

(3) Despite section 10(1) of the Local Government Act 1989, a Council which
immediately before the commencement of this section consists of less than 9
Councillors or more than 15 Councillors may continue to have that number of
Councillors under the Local Government Act 1989 until that number is changed
to accord with section 10(1) of that Act.

(4) The allowances which the Chairman and Councillors of any municipality are
entitled to receive under the Local Government Act 1958 immediately before the
commencement of section 74 of the Local Government Act 1989 continue to be
payable to those persons until the end of the year for which they were granted
as if they were fixed under section 74 of the Local Government Act 1989.
