The long title for the Bill for this Act was "A Bill to constitute a Libraries Board of Victoria and a Council of the State Library of Victoria, to repeal the Libraries Act 1958 and the Library Council of Victoria Act 1965 and for other purposes.".
The Libraries Act 1988 was assented to on 20 December 1988 and came into operation on 24 May 1989: Government Gazette 24 May 1989 page 1222.

3. Explanatory Details

1 S. 29(1):  The amendment made by section 7 (Schedule 1) of the Public Sector Reform (Miscellaneous Amendments) Act 1998, No. 46/1998 was repealed, as from 26 May 1998, by section 3 of the Arts Acts (Amendment) Act 1998, No. 59/1998.
