Person signing can exonerate himself

77. Person signing can exonerate himself

Subject to the preceding provisions of this Part the person signing any
receipt acknowledgment or bill of lading as aforesaid may in all proceedings
whether civil or criminal exonerate himself in respect of any
misrepresentation such as is referred to in section seventy-five by showing
that it was caused without any default on his part and by the fraud of the
shipper or of the holder or of some person under whom the holder claims.
