Referral selling

18. Referral selling



(1) A person must not, in trade or commerce, induce a purchaser to enter into
a consumer contract by representing that the purchaser may, after the contract
is made, receive a rebate, commission or other benefit in return for-

   (a)  giving the person the names of prospective customers; or



   (b)  otherwise assisting the person to supply goods or services to other
        purchasers-



if receipt of the rebate, commission or other benefit is contingent on an
event occurring after that contract is made.

Penalty: 600 penalty units, in the case of a natural person.
1200 penalty units, in the case of a body corporate.
