Disability Act 2006 - SECT 28

Community visitors

28. Community visitors



(1) The Governor in Council may on the recommendation of the Public Advocate
appoint community visitors for each region.

(2) Each community visitor-

   (a)  holds office for a period of 3 years;

   (b)  is eligible for re-appointment at the end of the term of office;

   (c)  is entitled to be paid any fees and travelling and other allowances
        fixed by the Governor in Council;

   (d)  is not in respect of the office of community visitor subject to the
        provisions of the Public Administration Act 2004.

(3) A person can not be appointed as a community visitor if that person-

   (a)  holds any appointment or employment with the Department; or

   (b)  has any direct interest in any contract with the Department.

(4) In nominating persons for appointment as community visitors, the Public
Advocate must as far as practicable nominate an equal number of males and
females.
