Differential rates

28. Differential rates



(1) Despite anything to the contrary in section 161(1)(a) of the
Local Government Act 1989, the Council may raise any general rates by the
application of a differential rate even if it does not use the capital
improved value system of valuing land.

(2) If the Council uses the net annual value system of valuation and declares
a differential rate, the highest differential rate must be no more than 2
times the lowest differential rate.
