Separate rates

19. Separate rates



(1) Upon the recommendation of the Committee, the Council may for the purpose
of collecting money to be applied for the purposes of this Act make and levy a
rate in respect of rateable land within the meaning of the
Local Government Act 1989 which abuts the precinct or is on the land bounded
by the streets referred to in section 4(1)(b)(i)(ii)(iii) and (iv).

(2) A rate under subsection (1) is to be a special rate under section 163 of
the Local Government Act 1989 and the provisions of that Act that apply to
special rates and sections 12(5) to (9) of the
Local Government (Consequential Provisions) Act 1989 apply to the rate.

(3) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the Local Government Act 1989,
section 171 of that Act shall apply to and in relation to a rate under
subsection (1).
