18. Appointment of registrar and deputy registrars2
(1) For the purposes of this Act and to assist in the administration of the
court there are, subject to the Public Administration Act 2004, to be
appointed-
(a) a registrar; and
(b) as many deputy registrars as are necessary.
(2) At every place at which the court sits there shall be one or more deputy
registrars.
(3) The registrar and deputy registrars have the duties, powers and functions
provided by this or any other Act, the regulations and the Rules.
(4) The registrar and deputy registrars in the exercise of their powers and
performance of their functions are subject to the directions of the Chief
Judge.
(5) A deputy registrar may, subject to this Act, the regulations and the Rules
and to any directions of the registrar, exercise any of the powers or perform
any of the functions of the registrar.
(6) A deputy registrar while acting under an appointment under subsection (1)
has the same powers and privileges and is subject to the same provisions,
duties and penalties for misbehaviour as if he or she were the registrar of
the court.
