Medical tests and samples

29. Medical tests and samples



(1) As soon as possible after a prisoner's reception into a prison the
prisoner must submit to medical tests.

(2) At any time after a prisoner's reception into a prison the principal
medical officer may direct the prisoner to submit to medical tests.

(3) In this section medical tests means any-

   (a)  medical examinations; and

   (b)  tests (including the taking of samples of breath, blood and other
        bodily secretions) to assess a person's physical and mental health-

determined by the principal medical officer.

(4) In determining medical tests which prisoners must undergo the principal
medical officer must have regard to the safety and welfare of the other
prisoners in the prison.
