Duties of Governor

21. Duties of Governor



(1) The Governor of a prison is responsible for the management, security and
good order of the prison and the safe custody and welfare of the prisoners.

(2) The Governor of a prison must take reasonable steps to ensure that
officers assigned to the prison know what their powers and duties are and what
provision is made by or under this Act concerning prisons and prisoners.



(3) The Governor of a prison must give all necessary directions to ensure
that-

   (a)  officers within the meaning of paragraph (f) of the definition of
        officer in section 14 assigned to the prison comply with the
        provisions of this Act and the regulations relating to prison
        security; and

   (b)  other officers assigned to the prison comply with this Act, and the
        regulations.
