Secretary may authorize medical practitioner to act as medical officer
16. Secretary may authorize medical practitioner to act as medical officer
(1) If there is no medical officer appointed for a prison or the medical
officer for the prison is absent the Secretary may by instrument authorize a
medical practitioner registered under the
Health Professions Registration Act 2005 to act as medical officer for that
prison while the position of medical officer is vacant or until the return of
the medical officer.
(2) Before authorizing a person to act as medical officer the Secretary must
consult with the Secretary to the Department of Human Services.
(3) An authority under subsection (1) may be given subject to such conditions
and limitations as are stated in the authority.
(4) This Act applies to a person authorized to act as medical officer as if
the person were a medical officer.
