Obligation to have birth registered

18. Obligation to have birth registered



(1) A person responsible for having the birth of a child registered must
ensure that a birth registration statement is lodged with the Registrar within
60 days after the date of the birth.

Penalty: 10 penalty units.

(2) However, the Registrar must accept a birth registration statement even
though it is lodged after the end of the 60 day period.

(3) The Registrar may request that further information be provided to support
the birth registration statement at any time before the Registrar registers
the birth.
