Building regulations

7. Building regulations



(1) The Governor in Council may make regulations for or with respect to
prohibiting or regulating-

   (a)  the construction, use, maintenance, demolition and removal of
        buildings;



   (b)  any matter relating to the safety of buildings and places of public
        entertainment;

   (c)  the use and maintenance of places of public entertainment.

(2) Without limiting the generality of subsection (1), regulations under this
Part may-

   (a)  provide for any matters set out in Part 1 of Schedule 1; and

   (b)  establish standards and requirements relating to any matter referred
        to in subsection (1)(a), (b) or (c) or Part 1 of Schedule 1; and

   (c)  require the carrying out of building work and maintenance on existing
        buildings and building work.

(3) The standards established by the regulations may be expressed in terms of
performance, types of material, methods of construction or in other terms.

(4) The regulations may provide for buildings constructed with particular
materials, designs or methods of construction to be deemed to satisfy the
prescribed standards.

(5) The regulations may apply to existing buildings, whether or not building
work is being or is proposed to be carried out on those buildings.
