Accident Compensation Act 1985 - SECT 27
Chairperson
27. Chairperson
(1) The Governor in Council may appoint one of the Directors to be
Chairperson.
(2) Where the Chairperson is unable whether by reason of illness or otherwise
to perform the duties of the office or the office of Chairperson is vacant,
the Governor in Council may appoint any other Director to act in the place of
the Chairperson.
(3) A person appointed under this section while acting in the place of the
Chairperson-
(a) has all the powers and may perform all the duties of and has the same
privileges as the Chairperson; and
(b) is if that person is not an officer or employee who holds a full-time
statutory office within the meaning of the
Public Administration Act 2004 or a full-time office with a statutory
corporation entitled to be paid-
(i) such remuneration as is specified in the instrument of appointment or
as may be fixed from time to time by the Governor in Council; and
(ii) such travelling and other allowances as may be fixed from time to time
by the Governor in Council.
(4) The Governor in Council may at any time terminate an appointment under
subsection (1), with effect to such person's appointment as a part-time
Director.
(5) If a person has been appointed under subsection (2) to act in the place of
the Chairperson during a period of inability of the Chairperson and the
Chairperson ceases to hold office without having resumed the performance of
the duties of the office, the period of appointment of the person so appointed
is deemed to continue until-
(a) the appointment is terminated by the Governor in Council; or
(b) the expiration of the period of 12 months after the date on which the
Chairperson ceases to hold office-
whichever first occurs.
