Recognition of an adoption in a prescribed overseas jurisdiction of a child from that jurisdiction

69U. Recognition of an adoption in a prescribed overseas jurisdiction of a
child from that jurisdiction



(1) Subject to section 69W, an adoption in a prescribed overseas jurisdiction
of a child who is habitually resident in that jurisdiction by a person who is
habitually resident in Australia is recognised if-

   (a)  the adoption is granted in accordance with the laws of that prescribed
        overseas jurisdiction; and

   (b)  an adoption certificate is in force in relation to the adoption.

(2) An adoption that is recognised under subsection (1) is effective on and
from the date that the adoption takes effect in the prescribed overseas
jurisdiction.
