PARLIAMENT OF VICTORIA
A BILL
to amend the Local Government Act 1989 to permit the Melbourne
City Council to continue to apply differential rates and for other
purposes.
Local Government (Melbourne City
Council Rates) Act 1999
The Parliament of Victoria enacts as follows:
1. Purpose
The main purpose of this Act is to amend the
Local Government Act 1989 to permit the
Melbourne City Council to continue to apply
5 differential rates.

2. Commencement
This Act comes into operation on the day on
which it receives the Royal Assent.
3. Melbourne City Council to continue to apply
5 differential rates
No. 11/1989. After section 161(5) of the Local Government
Reprint No. 4
Act 1989 insert--
as at 1 July
1998. Further
"(6) Sub-section (1)(a) does not apply to the
amended by
Melbourne City Council for the financial
Nos 92/1990,
7/1998,
10 year ending 30 June 2000 or any other
54/1998,
financial year specified by Order of the
86/1998 and
98/1998.
Governor in Council published in the
Government Gazette.
(7) The Governor in Council, on the
15 recommendation of the Minister, may make
an Order necessary for the purposes of sub-
section (6).".
4. Environment Effects Act 1978
No. 9135. In section 2 of the Environment Effects Act
20 1978 for "Department of Natural Resources and
Environment" (where twice occurring) substitute
"Department of Infrastructure".
