Environment Protection Amendment
(Landfill Levies) Bill 2008
A Bill for an Act to amend the Environment Protection Act 1970 to
increase certain prescribed industrial waste landfill levies and for other
purposes.
The Parliament of Victoria enacts:
1 Purpose
The purpose of this Act is to amend the
Environment Protection Act 1970 to increase
certain prescribed industrial waste landfill levies
5 and to make minor amendments to improve the
operation of the Act.
2 Commencement
(1) This Act (except sections 4 and 5) comes into
operation on the day after the day on which it
10 receives the Royal Assent.

(2) Section 4 is deemed to have come into operation
on 1 July 2007.
(3) Section 5 comes into operation on 1 July 2008.

4 Amendment of section 71--Regulations
10 In section 71(1)(aa) of the Environment
Protection Act 1970 for "to a maximum of
42 000 fee units" substitute "in respect of a
licensed scheduled premises to a maximum of
42 000 fee units with respect to each element of
15 the environment being the atmosphere, land or
waters to which waste is licensed to be
discharged, emitted or deposited,".
5 Amendment of Schedule E--Prescribed industrial
waste landfill levy
20 In Schedule E to the Environment Protection
Act 1970--
(a) for "130" substitute "250";
(b) for "50" substitute "70".

6 Repeal of amending Act
This Act is repealed on 1 July 2009.
Note
The repeal of this Act does not affect the continuing operation of
5 the amendments made by it (see section 15(1) of the
Interpretation of Legislation Act 1984).
