Amendment (School Age) Bill 2009
A Bill for an Act to amend the Education and Training Reform Act
2006 in relation to the compulsory school age and for other purposes.
The Parliament of Victoria enacts:
1 Purpose
The purpose of this Act is to amend the
Education and Training Reform Act 2006 in
relation to the compulsory school age.
5 2 Commencement
This Act comes into operation on 1 January 2010.

4 Definitions
5 (1) In section 1.1.3 of the Principal Act, in the
definition of compulsory school age, for
"16 years" substitute "17 years".
(2) In section 1.1.3 of the Principal Act, in the
definition of post-compulsory education, for
10 "16 years" substitute "17 years".
5 Attendance at school
In section 2.1.1 of the Principal Act, for
"16 years" substitute "17 years".
6 What is a reasonable excuse?
15 For section 2.1.3(c) of the Principal Act
substitute--
"(c) the child is participating in education or
training, or employment, or both, in
accordance with an Order made by the
20 Minister for the purposes of this paragraph;".

7 Repeal of amending Act
This Act is repealed on 1 January 2011.
Note
The repeal of this Act does not affect the continuing operation of
5 the amendments made by it (see section 15(1) of the
Interpretation of Legislation Act 1984).
