LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT 1993 - SECT 218
Procedure of Board of Inquiry
(1) A Board of Inquiry (a) is to conduct an inquiry with as little formality and technicality as a proper consideration of the matter before it permits; and(b) is not bound by the rules of evidence and may inform itself on any matter in any way it considers appropriate; and(c) must observe the rules of natural justice.(2) Subject to subsection (1) , a Board of Inquiry may regulate its own procedure.(3) Nothing in this section requires a Board of Inquiry to (a) hold a public hearing; or(b) permit the cross-examination of a witness.
