FIREARMS ACT 1996 - SECT 74

PART 4 - Registration of Firearms Division 1 - Registration procedure 74. Unregistered firearms

      (1) A person must not sell, acquire, possess or use a firearm that is not registered.

Penalty:

Fine not exceeding 50 penalty units or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years, or both.

      (2) Subsection (1) does not apply to –

(a) an imitation firearm; or

(b) a firearm imported and acquired by a licensed firearms dealer so long as the firearm is registered within 7 days of the dealer receiving it.
