FIREARMS ACT 1996 - SECT 118
Silencers and magazines
(1) A person must not use, keep, possess, sell or manufacture any implement designed to suppress the sound caused by the discharge of a firearm, whether or not the implement forms part of the firearm or can be attached to, or removed from, the firearm.Penalty: Fine not exceeding 50 penalty units or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years, or both.(2) A person must not use, keep, possess, sell, acquire or manufacture a detachable firearms magazine that is (a) capable of holding more than 5 rounds of ammunition; and(b) designed or adapted for use with a self-loading centre-fire rifle.Penalty: Fine not exceeding 50 penalty units or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years, or both.(3) A person must not possess a detachable firearms magazine that is (a) capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition and being used in a pump-action centre-fire rifle; or(b) capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition and being used in a lever-action centre-fire rifle; or(c) capable of holding more than 15 rounds of ammunition and being used in a bolt-action centre-fire rifle.Penalty: Fine not exceeding 50 penalty units or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years, or both.
