WORKERS REHABILITATION AND COMPENSATION AMENDMENT BILL 2008 (Brought in by Marinus Theodoor Hidding) A BILL FOR An Act to amend the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 Be it enacted by His Excellency the Governor of Tasmania, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and House of Assembly, in Parliament assembled, as follows: 1. Short title This Act may be cited as the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Amendment Act 2008. 2. Commencement This Act commences on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent. 3. Principal Act In this Act, the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988* is referred to as the Principal Act. 4. Section 69B amended (Period for which benefits are payable) Section 69B of the Principal Act is amended by inserting after subsection (6) the following subsection: (7) In relation to a police officer, who has taken the oath or affirmation under section 36(2) of the Police Service Act 2003, who suffers an injury in the conduct of his or her duty arising out of or in the course of keeping and preserving the peace or preventing an offence against a person or property, the weekly payment determined under section 69 is to be payable at 100% of the weekly payment for the period of incapacity. ___________________________________________________________________ *No. 4 of 1988
