South Australian Consolidated Acts48A—Power to accept surrender of uneconomic block
If the Minister is satisfied that any block is such that the lessee thereof
has no reasonable prospects of meeting his commitments from the income to be
derived from the block, the lessee may surrender the lease and the Minister
may accept the surrender in the name of and on behalf of His Majesty the King.
In any such case, the Minister may, out of moneys to be provided by
Parliament, make such ex gratia payment to the lessee upon the surrender of
his lease as the Minister, on the recommendation of the Land Board, thinks
just and proper. No such ex gratia payment shall exceed the sum of six hundred
dollars.
