South Australian Consolidated Acts21—Name of child
(1) Subject to this
section, the birth registration statement must state the name of the child.
(2) The name is a
matter of choice for the person or persons lodging the statement 1 , but the
Registrar may assign a name to a child if—
(a) the
name stated in the birth registration statement is a prohibited name; or
(b) the
birth registration statement is lodged by both parents of the child and they
satisfy the Registrar that they are unable to agree on the child's name.
(3) A birth
registration statement relating to a still-born child need not state the name
of the child.
Note—
1 For example, there is no requirement that the
name be made up of both a surname and a given name or given names.
