Oath of office
228 Oath of office
(1) This section applies to a person who, under this Act, holds any of the
following offices or who is appointed to act in any of the following
offices—
(a) president;
(b) deputy president;
(c) senior member;
(d)
ordinary member, other than the office of an ordinary member held by a
magistrate under section 171(2) ;
(e) supplementary member;
(f)
adjudicator.
(2) Before the person performs any function of the office, the
person must take or make the oath prescribed under a regulation before the
following person—
(a) for a person appointed as president, deputy president
or a supplementary member, or to act in the office of the president or deputy
president—the Chief Justice;
(b) for a person appointed as a senior member,
ordinary member or adjudicator, or to act in the office of a senior member,
ordinary member or an adjudicator—
(i) if the person is an Australian
lawyer—the Chief Justice or, if the Chief Justice nominates the president to
hear the oath, the president or deputy president; or
